Survivor News-Summer 2012
You asked, and we listened. A few months ago we did a survey asking our local Survivors what they would like to see more of. The response was overwhelmingly: MORE INFORMATION.
We’ll be doing quarterly newsletters with information that you may be interested in!
Share Your Story and be Celebrated!
Calling on local Survivors! We recognize that breast cancer Survivors are some of the most inspirational people out there. Here at the Komen office, we are so very lucky to know so many. In fact, our Board President is a Survivor. Breast cancer Survivor’s are now the largest group of cancer Survivors in the U.S.!
Komen Central Florida is partnering with the Orlando Sentinel for the third year in a row on the “Life’s Victories” project. Life’s Victories is a month long series done in October to celebrate local breast cancer Survivors and spread awareness. Each day will feature a different story, and that’s where you come in! If you wish to share your story, you will be honored on a pink page during October, get FREE entry to the Central Florida Race for the Cure and FREE entry to the Orlando Sentinel's Pretty in Pink Party. All you have to do is e-mail email@example.com to get more details on how to participate! Space is limited, so please let us know as soon as possible if you want to participate!
Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE)
The annual FORCE conference will be held in Orlando on Oct. 19th and Oct. 20th at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. Susan G Komen for the Cure is a sponsor of the event and we need volunteers to help staff the Komen table during the session breaks. If you volunteer, you may attend the sessions for free. The sessions include everything from: Genetics, Support, Reconstruction, Networking, etc… More information on FORCE can be found here.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
In Celebration & In Memory Nominations
New this year, Komen Central Florida's Race for the Cure is paying special tribute to two individuals from our 9-county service area that have inspired others by exuding strength and grace during their fight with breast cancer.
Tell us who you think this year's Race for the Cure should be run in celebration of and how their determination has inspired others in the battle against breast cancer. Or you can nominate someone who, after a courageous fight, lost their battle.
Nominations must be received by September 1, 2012.
