2012 Race News
Are you Inspired?
We are!!!! Join us as we celebrate the MANY faces of Inspiration at the 16th Annual Komen Central Florida
Race for the Cure on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at UCF’s Bright House Networks
Stadium.
In 2011, the Central Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®
raised just over $412,000 which currently funds 10 local grants which provide
breast health services for those in need, in addition to national
groundbreaking research. We could not have done it without the generosity of
our supporters. Still, thousands in our affiliate area are in need of
assistance for the screening and treatment that SAVES LIVES. Did you know that 20 women will be diagnosed
with breast cancer during your lunch hour today? One could be your mother,
daughter, sister, wife or friend. Did you also know that 2,190 men in the U.S.
will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year? Make a difference by
registering now for the Susan G. Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure.
Our race is not over…it is not won…until we’ve found the cures for
breast cancer.
Public Policy
Fight for a Life
Saving Program!
A collective voice CAN bring about change. We are in the fight against
breast cancer from all angles and work to ensure our federal government
allocates adequate funding for initiatives such as the Breast and Cervical
Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP). This life-saving program provides
low-income, uninsured, and underserved women access to timely breast and
cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services. With only 58% of all
eligible women in our 9 counties getting an annual screening mammogram, lack of
funding for the BCCEDP can rob these women of so much more than access. Please,
take a minute to add your name to the petition and let the legislators we
helped to seat know that the needs of women in Central Florida must remain a
priority. Pass it on to friends, family, co-workers and ask them to do the
same. Thanks for your support!

Survivor News
We’ve partnered
with the Orlando Sentinel for the 3rd year in a row and will be featuring local
breast cancer survivors in their ‘Life’s Victories’ section of the newspaper.
Much like what inspires our Race for the Cure, it serves as a way to spotlight
and celebrate survivorship as well as educate about the uniqueness of each
person’s experience with breast cancer. If you or someone you know is a breast
cancer survivor here in Central Florida who would be willing to take part in
this inspirational section, please e-mail info@komencentralflorida.org with ‘Sentinel Stories’ in the subject line.
Space is limited and offered on a first come, first serve basis.
Volunteer News Simply put, WE NEED YOU! Our all-volunteer Race Committee still has a
few spots left and each one helps make the race the success that it is. So much
goes into planning the Race for the Cure and being behind-the-scenes certainly
helps you appreciate what true commitment looks and feels like. If you’re
interested in learning more about the opportunities we have on our awesome race
committee, please email race@komencentralflorida.org.
